My flight back to Toronto was delayed two hours because the Calgary airport had had a power outage the night before I left. I spent the time in the Air Canada lounge, which includes a full office environment where you can work at a desk, get on-line, and make phone calls.
While I was brewing an [...]

Back in Calgary

I write this tonight from my suite at the Mariott in Calgary, where I find myself for a few days to meet with some of my fellow network team members at our Calgary data centre, and tommorow to meet with one of our customers.
Today I discovered that I have been to Calgary enough to be [...]
Working Weekend

Work has been much busier than usual lately, and especially this weekend. There were several maintenance windows planned, which required more effort due to problems than expected. As a result, I haven’t slept much. On the positive side, all the problems that came up are under control, although there is some work left to do.
Merita [...]
Valentine’s Day

Today is Valentine’s day. Although in the past Merita and I have gone through the typical gift exchange and romantic restaurant dinner routine, this year we felt it made sense to scale things down. Aside from the cash crunch that comes with having to fork out a sizeable down payment on the house we will [...]
Conan in Toronto

This week Conan O’Brien has been hosting his late-night talk show in Toronto. I find it a little embarassing how Torontonians seem to be so in love with Conan, and more specifically overjoyed any time he mentions something Canadian. Are we, as Canadians, so insecure that we need a big-name American to mention our attributes [...]
Ruth’s Chris

On Saturday night we went for dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, which I believe has the best steak in the city. Not cheap, so we can’t go often, but when we do it is always delicious. Also noteworthy are their sides, mostly available au gratin, and self-proclaimed famous freezes, my favourite being the amaretto prailine.
I [...]
Butternut Squash Soup

One of my favourite soups is butternut squash, and last night we made our own from scratch. It was a fair bit of work, but well worth it; the soup tastes fantastic. My favourite part is putting all the ingredients into the food processor, and watching them transform into soup.
Lately we have been attempting to [...]
Austrailian Send-off

My parents hosted a send-off get-together last night for my brother, who is leaving for Australia on Sunday for a year. All of our immediate family and some family friends were there, so there was lots of good conversation, food and an entertaining Leafs vs. Senators game in the background (the Leafs won 5-4 after [...]
Bowling

On Saturday night we went out for one of our friend’s birthday, and after dinner went bowling. I haven’t been bowling in years, and it was lots of fun. Amazing how bowling alleys don’t seem to have changed or updated their decors at all since the 80’s.
We have decided that our moving day will be [...]
