Today marks the last day of 2003, and it has been quite a year. Most significant, of course, is that I was married this year. It was also an all-around good year at home, at work, and personally. Hard to think of all the specifics–that’s why I started documenting things on this site!
We went shopping [...]

Movies

Since I’m on vacation this week, and we don’t have many plans, Merita and I have been watching a bunch of movies that we’ve saved up on the PVR, or have come on the movie networks. We’ve watched Angus, One Hour Photo, The Pianist, and Rules of Attraction. We also saw The Last Samurai and [...]
Jamaica

We spent last week in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, on our honeymoon. It was fantastic. The weather was a little rainy at first, but turned hot and sunny, and I enjoyed sitting on the beach drinking rum punch and reading good books.
In addition to all the relaxing, and eating magnificent food, we also climbed up Dunns [...]
Dad’s Birthday

Today is my dad’s birthday, and to celebrate Merita and I went out for dinner with him, my mom, and Liat. We went to Golden Thai, an excellent and authentic Thai restaurant downtown, and everything was delicious. I especially liked the spicy eggplant, pad thai, and blazing bannanas with ginger tea for desert.
Cookie’s eye seems [...]
A Song for Arbonne

I recently finished reading Guy Gavriel Kay’s A Song for Arbonne. I have always enjoyed Kay’s novels, and this one did not disappoint. Short of doing a complete book review, I will say that the plot was intricate and engaging, the characters were unique and vividly described, and the themes were powerful. It did drag [...]
The Uptown Collapses

The Uptown theatre at Yonge & Bloor collapsed today, trapping several people and killing at least one. A sad story, but also significant because of how much time I spent at the theatre watching movies with friends over the years.
Before the onslaught of the new multi-screen movie complexes, the Uptown was my favourite places to [...]
Eating Cake

Yesterday most of what I ate was dessert. We went to Merita’s parents (now my in-laws!) with my parents and grandparents for coffee and cake in the afternoon, which was nice. During the wedding it was so busy that it was hard to really sit down and talk with each other, so this was a [...]
Cookie & The Evil Drops

As part of Cookie’s recovery from her eye problem, we have to put drops in her eye three times a day. She finds this to be a most unpleasant experience, and puts up a fight, but does eventually let us get it done.
She has been sleeping most of the rest of the time, as the [...]
Cookie the Conehead

Cookie is home! The procedure to repair her eye went well, and I picked her up this morning. She doesn’t look too bad, although she’s pretty groggy from the whole ordeal. I’m sure in a few days she’ll be back to mostly-normal. We have to put drops in her eye several [...]
